You see, after my dad’s death, my mother relocated to shags and she left us with our uncle. I had to survive the hard way.
You said that you attempted to commit suicide twice, what was going on?
When you are hooked to drugs, half of the time you have hallucinations. You see, hear imaginary things and sounds. In short, you lose touch with your surroundings. The first day I attempted suicide, I was lone. Something told me to take a knife and slit my throat open.
Luckily, my brother stormed into the room when I was just about to and he saved me. Second time, was after I became a father. My wife was an addict too. I remember feeling sad and I broke down. I was a disgrace to my family. I went out and bought poison and hid it under the bed.
I had planned to take it on Monday, but my wife, by good chance, as she was cleaning the house, she threw it away. She didn’t know what was inside. All I can say, is God had a purpose for my life.
How did found yourself in church?
You will not believe it! On Sunday I woke up with this heaviness in my heart. Something was driving me to church.
A force, which I cannot explain. I dressed up, and found myself at Baptist Chapel, which was where my parents used to worship.
I went straight to the altar and started wailing. I gave my life to Christ that day.
You are now a pastor, how is it?
My life has changed. I am now at peace. I pray for drug addicts and bring them to Lord. I encourage them. Addiction is a disease and one needs a strong support system.
Any word to the youth?
Change begins with a choice. And, choices have consequences. Drugs will only mess you up.
