Titus Odhiambo, 15, a student at Sindo Baptist Academy, was shot in the chest at Sindo Township as police battled demonstrators last Thursday.
Odhiambo had surgery to remove a bullet lodged in his chest on Friday.
According to the hospital matron, Ruth Otieno, Odhiambo sustained serious injuries in the respiratory tract.
“The bullet interfered with his respiratory system, making him unable to breathe well. We had to put him on oxygen for 24 hours to enhance his breathing,” said Otieno.
Homa Bay County Director of Education Margaret Muandale said the necessary arrangements would be made to ensure the boy sits all his papers.
The boy’s mother, Milka Odhiambo, said she was relieved that the examination officials had given her son the papers.
In Kibwezi East, Makueni County, a 16-year old pupil from Kalimani Primary School sat her papers in hospital after she delivered days to the exams.

Mr Amos Magomere of Isinya Primary School was accused by senior education officials, including TSC Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, of failing to display labels containing the name and index numbers of candidates.
Macharia, who visited the school in the morning shortly after opening a container where the papers were stored, wondered how the exams could start without the labels.
In Kirinyaga, a juvenile facing a defilement charge is sitting his exams from a police cell in Kerugoya town.
His case is pending at the Baricho law courts. He was said to have committed the offence after registering for the examination at Kangai Primary School in Mwea West sub-county.
