A source told Tanzania’s Amani newspaper that the preacher had locked himself inside his house to pray and fast for his healing.
The pastor was advised by his neighbours and followers to seek medical treatment, but he turned down the advice saying his faith would heal him.
Another source, who spoke in confidence, told the outlet that the last time he saw Mr Mwarusi was July 29 when he spotted him entering his house.
The source says he would hear the pastor pray at the top of his voice for God to restore his health.
Speaking to the press last Monday, the Chairman of Makuburi Kibangu area Moshi Kaftani confirmed the incident.
The deceased was laid to rest last Tuesday, August 2 at the Ubungo Maji cemetery in Dar es Salaam in a burial event that was attended by members of his church.
