Mitunguu residents in Meru on Tuesday held protests over increasing insecurity after a pastors wife was raped and murdered on Saturday evening.
The resident accused police of laxity after the woman, Roseline Munala was raped and her eyes gouged out just 50 meters from Mitunguu police station.
The woman was going home from cleaning the church.
Her naked body was found on Sunday morning.
The protesters broke into local bars that they suspected have been harbouring criminals.
Dorothy Mwaniki, a resident and Gospel Outreach Church pastor said the deceased was a role model, humble, a mother and a committed pastor.
“She was coming to her house after cleaning the church. What security do they offer if such a noble woman can be killed behind their station?” she asked.
Mutunguu MCA Evans Mawira Kaaria said it is shocking and devastating as brutal murder cases have escalated in the Ward.
He said five people have been brutally killed in the last five months.
He urged Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to order for thorough investigations and transfer of police officers who have overstayed.
“It is sad news of the brutal murder of one of the strongest, humble and religious women we know in Mitunguu Town. This is just a day after we laid to rest another victim, Doreen Kinya who was thrown to her death by touts in a matatu plying the Thika-Nairobi route,” Mawira said.
Deputy County commissioner Mugo Gichiri and Imenti South OCPD John Cheruiyot said investigations are ongoing.
