Safaricom has launched a new product that brings together its voice, data, M-Pesa and SMS services. Dubbed FLEX Bundles, the product was launched on Wednesday evening at the Prestige Plaza in Nairobi.
The product targets people in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. “Kenya is a unique country, no matter the time or location we are always striving to make an extra shilling, said Sylvia Mulinge, the Safaricom Director of Consumer Business Unit. “At end of the day we don’t want our customers bebana’ing with two or three phones because they’re looking for value.”
Ms. Sylvia Mulinge speaking during the launch.
According to Ms. Mulinge, consumption in the new bundle offering will be determined by how many minutes a consumer calls, how many texts they send and their data usage patterns.
The FLEX Bundle plan comes with three packages that consumers will be able to choose from.
These include the daily bundle at a cost of Sh. 99, the weekly bundle costing Sh. 599 and the monthly bundle which will cost Sh. 2,499.
Interestingly, the FLEX units will be available to all Pre Pay customers and individual Post Pay consumers. They are expected to give consumers who subscribe at least 35 per cent more value.
According to Ms. Mulinge, 1 FLEX Unit will be equivalent to 3mbs when browsing the internet. In the same vein, Flex users will earn 3 free Flex every time they send money above Sh. 100 to another M-PESA user.
Customers can purchase FLEX Bundles by dialing *100# or *200# on Prepaid and Postpaid packages respectively.
