A Catholic nun in Spain has come under fire for claiming Virgin Mary wasn’t a virgin. The nun also said Joseph and Mary were a couple that did things normal couples do, including having intercourse.  She has now apologized for her comments and has said she received death threats.

A popular Catholic nun in Spain has stirred controversy after making comments suggesting that Virgin Mary wasn’t a virgin and that she and Joseph did things that normal couples do, including having intercourse.

Sister Lucia Caram made the controversial comments on Spanish TV

Sister Lucia Caram, an Argentine nun based in Catalonia, Spain, made the controversial comments during a live TV show in a Spanish TV channel.

She said that Mary and Jospeh were in love and therefore there had to be some physical intimacy between then as would be expected of a normal couple.

Sister Lucia said Joseph and Mary were in love and must have engaged in physical intimacy

Her comments drew swift condemnation from religious leaders across Spain and from her own followers on social media. The asserted that the virginity of Mary cannot be disputed and that disputing it amounts to questioning Christian faith.

Sister Lucia has now apologized for her remarks, saying she did not mean for them to be misconstrued in a perverted way. She regretted that she had received death threats as a result of her comments.
