Self Proclaimed Prophet Owour In Trouble With Environmentalists In Nakuru, This Is After His Worshipers Walked In Town With Branches Of Trees

The County Government of Nakuru has threatened to sue popular preacher David Owuor’s Ministry of Repentance and Holiness for destroying trees.

The environment department has accused Owuor’s followers of destroying trees as they harvest the twigs they use in processions to celebrate the alleged resurrection of a church member.

Rosa Rotirakori from Cheparten village, South Pokot sub-county, is said to have collapsed and died after being ill for about a month.

Owuor’s followers allegedly destroyed

Owuor’s followers believe she resurrected days later and have been holding street processions and waving tree branches, puttingĀ them on a collision course with environmentalists.

“The church has been in conflict with the law as they embark on their celebrations and preaching. This cannot go unpunished,” said Kiogora Muriithi, the county director of environment.

Mr Muriithi said that every Sunday, over 2,000 worshippers destroy trees during their processions.

The church has denied the claims and promised to conform to environmental laws.

“We often ask worshippers to bring twigs from their homes and go back with them after the procession,” said Archbishop John Litunda.
